I am tired of the Men in Black (MIB) franchise. It was the 90s when the first film premiered. Now, a new MIB is set to open by 2012. Following Avatar, the film will be in 3D (wow!!!), the new but old thing that is drawing crowds back into the movie theater. Nothing like the BIS—”butts-in-seats” to make money.
According to NME, Etan Cohan (Tropic Thunder) has been hired to pen the film. So, I’m guessing the film will have a sillier side than the previous Men in Black films, which is saying a lot because previous MIBs have been outrageous, some outrageously bad at some points.
Yet, I like what Cohan did in Tropic Thunder. He played up racial stereotypes in films and it was a farce of the Vietnam films like Apocalypse Now and the Commando action films of the 80s. So, maybe the new MIB will be okay. To be honest, I am more annoyed of Will Smith doing these type of films. He has grown as an actor with films like Seven Pounds and the Pursuit of Happyness yet bombed with films like Hancock ( I am bit divided on I Am Legend because of the CGI and weak ending). Examining Smith’s IMDB page , there are a slew of films in development, some based on past hits like Independence Day and I Am Legend; yes, more rewinds.
Grab your 3-D glasses and plan to revisit the past.
